📅 Date: November 23, 2025

📍 Location: Vandenberg Space Force Base, California

🚀 Mission: Starlink Group 11-30

In the early hours of Sunday morning, the California coastline bore witness to a sight that has become increasingly rare in the era of reusable rockets: the pristine, white gleam of a brand-new booster standing against the dark sky.

At 12:48 a.m. PST (08:48 UTC), SpaceX successfully launched the Starlink Group 11-30 mission from Space Launch Complex 4E (SLC-4E). The Falcon 9 rocket carried 28 Starlink V2 Mini satellites to low Earth orbit, marking another critical expansion of the mega-constellation.

But the real headline wasn’t just the payload—it was the rocket itself. This mission marked the maiden flight of Booster B1100, the latest addition to SpaceX’s workhorse fleet.

🏗 The “New” Hardware: Meet Booster B1100

For the past several years, SpaceX watchers have grown accustomed to seeing “soot-stained” rockets on the pad. Fleet leaders like B1061 and B1062 have flown 20+ times, wearing their scorched fuselages like badges of honor.

B1100 is different.

As the 8th new booster introduced in 2025, B1100 represents a critical strategic injection of fresh hardware into the SpaceX rotation.

Why a New Booster Now?

With SpaceX pushing past 150 launches this year, the operational tempo is grueling. The fleet requires rotation to allow older boosters to undergo “deep maintenance” and recertification for their 25th or 30th flights. B1100 arrives just in time to take the strain off the veterans, ensuring the cadence of 3-4 launches per week can continue uninterrupted through the holiday season.

Following stage separation, B1100 executed a perfect landing on the drone ship Of Course I Still Love You, stationed hundreds of miles downrange in the Pacific. It now holds a perfect 1/1 flight record.

🛰 The Payload: 28 “V2 Mini” Powerhouses

Hidden inside the fairing were 28 of SpaceX’s Starlink V2 Mini satellites. Don’t let the name fool you—these satellites are significantly more powerful than the previous generation.

  • ⚡ Argon Hall Thrusters: The first commercial satellites to use Argon for electric propulsion, offering 2.4x the thrust of the older Krypton-based system.
  • 📡 4x Capacity: Enhanced phased array antennas provide four times the bandwidth capacity per satellite compared to the V1.5 models.
  • 📐 The “Mini” Moniker: They are called “Mini” only because they are smaller than the future full-sized V2s designed for the Starship rocket. In reality, they weigh roughly 800kg (1,760 lbs) each.

These satellites will spend the next few weeks raising their orbits to roughly 550km, where they will join the 9,000+ active satellites currently beaming high-speed internet to over 8 million customers worldwide.

📊 2025: The Year of Velocity

This launch further cements 2025 as the most prolific year in the history of spaceflight.

  • 151st Falcon 9 launch of 2025.
  • 110th dedicated Starlink mission of the year.
  • 10,470+ total Starlink satellites launched to date.

While the world awaits the full operational status of the massive Starship vehicle (currently undergoing repairs in Texas following a recent test anomaly), the Falcon 9 remains the undisputed king of the skies.

👁 Viewing Opportunities

For skywatchers, the 28 new satellites may be visible as a “train” of bright lights moving across the night sky for the next 2-3 days before they spread out.

  • Look for: A tight line of lights moving West to East (or South-East).
  • Best Time: 45-90 minutes after sunset or before sunrise.

🏁 Conclusion

The successful debut of B1100 is a testament to SpaceX’s production line, which is still churning out state-of-the-art rockets even as they fly existing ones to the breaking point. With 2025 nearing its close, SpaceX shows zero signs of slowing down.
